Dark Light

UK 2002 (112′)- Dir.: Gurinder Chadha. With Parminder Nagra, Keira Knightley, Jonathan Rhys-Meyers. Official site (in Dutch) | Official site (en Français) | dvd

Jess wants to become a football player, but growing up in a traditional Indian family is not compatible with her wild ambitions. A girl she meets in the park (played by the talented Keira Knightley) gets her into the women’s team of the local football club.
Maybe its success is due to the combination of elements like a family in a ‘foreign’ country, the different opinions of children and parents, and the struggle for acceptance. The same ingredients that didn’t work for My Big Fat Boring Wedding, work very well in this cheery movie, which has good humour and some very nice football scenes. So if you like football, nice looking girls, or Indian food: go see this film!
