Dark Light

Austin Powers in Goldmember Dir.: Jay Roach (USA 2002, 94′). With Mike Myers, Mike Myers, Mike Myers, Beyoncé Knowles and Michael Caine. My rating:

MoviesI remember seeing the first Austin Powers film on a pre-screening for distributors in 1997. The general reception was not really favourable, but I was quite amused and thought this film would soon obtain a cult status. The 1999 sequel The Spy who Shagged Me, lived up to its expectations and did very well at the box-office. But after seeing Goldmember this week, I can only phrase the great 20th Century Philosopher Austin Powers himself: “This is not funny!”. The opening sequence is quite amusing, with cameos by Tom Cruise, Gwynneth Paltrow and Steven Spielberg. But the other 85 minutes are not even remotely entertaining. A very weak plot, and fairly weak acting. And why does Mike Myers need to blame all the bollocks on the bloody Dutchman? It is clear that with this film Austin Powers officially applied for his licence to be killed…
