Dark Light

USA 2002 (113′)- Dir.: George Clooney. With Sam Rockwell, Drew Barrymore, George Clooney, Rutger Hauer. My rating: 5 stars | Official site | George Clooney Unofficial Site | Chuck Barris Fan Club | Rutger Hauer Official Site

It’s Kaufmann/Clooney time this week for me (See Adaptation and Solaris). Actor/Director/Producer Clooney is without a doubt one of the most interesting people in today’s international cinema.
The only critical remark could be the presence of the (real?) testimonials, shot in a documentary style. They do not add anything to the story. But that’s just a tiny detail, Confessions… is a brillant debute!

confessions.jpgThe story is based on the book by Chuck Barris, tv-show host and CIA-agent. And probably a mythomaniac too, although that doesn’t become clear in this film. Very nice to see one of my heroes (Clooney is another one), Rutger Hauer (probably my biggest hero actually), in a good role. His part unfortunately only lasts a couple of minutes, but every frame in which Hauer is present sizzles and intrigues.
