Dark Light

Heaven USA/UK/FRANCE/GERMANY 2002 (96′)- Dir.: Tom Tykwer. With Cate Blanchett, Giovani Tribisi. Official site (German) | Official site (English)

A curious mix of European talent, financially backed by American Miramax: The (German) director of Lola Rennt, Tom Tykwer, a screenplay by the late (Polish) Krzysztof Kieslowski, co-produced by the (British) director of The English Patient, with music by the (Estonian) composer Arvo Pärt, in a film that was shot in Italy in Italian (and some English).
Heaven is a part of what should have become a trilogy (as was Trois Couleurs), together with Hell and Purgatory, but unfortunately Kieslowski died before he could finish it.
Heaven tells the story of Philippa (Cate Blanchett), who wanted to kill a drug dealer, but through a mistake killed 4 innocent people. She is then charged with terrorism, and during her interrogations a Carabinieri (played by Giovanni Ribisi) falls in love with her, and helps her to escape.
