It is not often that I get to see Russian films, not even in the Cinema capital of the World that is Paris. But two, and two good ones, in two days is a pretty good score. Three boys in a nostalgic seaside resort on the Black Sea (I guess it is Odessa), decide to do everything to get money to buy a nice suit they have seen.
After a couple of little jobs and some petty crime, they have the money and can finally afford the chic two piece. Each of the boys is entitled to a day in the suit. Each of the boys will use it to change something in their lives. One will visit his father, the second wants to impress a shop girl, and the third needs to set some things straight with his father’s girlfriend. Things don’t go as they have planned.
The Suit is a charming and funny film about friendship, and gives an interesting image of daily life in the Ukraine. It is quite a contrast when compared to Oligarkh, which talks about the Mafia in Moscow. But both films show unmistakably that the process of putting the former Soviet Union back on track is far from finished.
